a pair of underwear is on a line to dry, against a blue sky

The Ultimate Guide To Plus-Size Underwear & Lingerie

Undies are so hard to shop for, especially plus-size underwear. You can't exactly try it on before you buy it, since it's not sanitary, and you don't necessarily know if it's comfortable until about 8 hours into wearing the same pair. When panties are uncomfortably digging in, bunching up, or giving you the oh-so lovely wedgie, it's distracting and irritating. And when you do decide you don't like the fit of the underwear, you can't return it because underwear is final sale.

This one seemingly simple garment is shockingly difficult to get right and can make you feel so comfortable that you never think about it, or so uncomfortable that you can't think about anything else.

We asked you, our community, to recommend the best in plus-size underwear. Here are the brands you recommend.

1. Lane Bryant's Cacique

The underwear section at Lane Bryant is one-of-a-kind because it's been exclusively serving plus-size women for so long, so it's no wonder that so many people were quick to recommend their favorite Cacique style. The styles that came highly recommended include the hipster, specifically the no show hipster and the smoother hipster, the cheeky, and the smoother briefs.

Most styles are available in sizes 12 - 32
Many styles can be bundled 5 pairs for $35 or 3 pairs for $33.

2. Parade

Parade is a young, new e-commerce brand featuring bold, bright colors on cool models wearing colorful makeup. Their signature styles are their thong, brief, cheeky, and boyshort, with some additional high cut options.

They carry sizes XS - 3X which according to their numerical size chart serves sizes 0 - 20.
One pair will cost you $9.

3. Torrid

Another plus-size staple is Torrid, which like Lane Bryant can be found in various malls in addition to their online shop. Many of you turn to Torrid time and time again for undies, and you recommended to try their cotton and cheeky styles.

They offer sizes 00 - 6, which tracks to a size 10 - 30.
When they aren't on sale, a pair will cost you between $9 and $20.

4. Curvy Couture

Specializing in plus-size lingerie, Curvy Couture is an excellent destination for well-fitting bras and underwear. The high waist style comes recommended, but they also carry thongs and hipsters.

They offer sizes 6/8 through 22/24.
Most styles cost between $22 and $26 per pair.

5. Tomboy X

This gender neutral underwear brand offers briefs, thongs, bikini, boy shorts, boxer briefs, and trunks. You and your partner can shop TomboyX together, and even match, regardless of your or your partner's sex or gender.

Tomboy carries sizes XS - 4X.
Most styles cost $20-$22, but you can get a 3-pack for $36.

6. Arq

The undergarment brand Arq has one signature panty, the high waist undies, and offers that one style in a myriad colors. They claim that their signature high waist silhouette is the "holy grail of comfortable and also ultra-flattering (read: they don't cut into those sweet curves) foundational garments." Not only is the line inclusively sized, they also offer a kids collection of under garments made for baby sizes, kid sizes, and youth sizes.

Arq's adult sizes are XS - 3X, which tracks to a size 0/2 - 22/24.
One pair of unbleached cotton undies costs $28.

7. Aerie

The lingerie brand by iconic mall staple American Eagle has been praised by the media for leaving the models in their imagery unretouched. While not a fully size-inclusive line, Aerie provides a wide range of sizes and lots of fun colors, prints, and cuts including high cut, boybriefs, thongs, high waisted, cheekies, bikinis, and boyshorts.

You can find sizes XXS - XXL, which tracks to a size 00 - 20
One pair ranges from $9.50-$12.50, but you can scoop up 6 pairs for $25.

8. ThirdLove

While ThirdLove may be known for disrupting the bra market, of course they have a wide array of underwear too. Our community recommends the Comfort Stretch styles in particular, which come in a bikini cut, high brief, and thong.

You can find sizes XS-3X, which tracks to a size 0 - 24.
One pair will cost you $12 but you can pick up a pack of three for $30.

I’d be remiss if I didn’t recommend ThirdLove. Their panties are AMAZING – I swear by their Comfort Stretch line, which are totally seamless and fit like a dream. They’re my go-to everyday undies!
